April 2026 Art

For April I worked on designing and drawing some of my new characters!

OC’s in my Outfits

I started thinking about if my characters got the opportunity to raid my wardrobe, what outfits would they pick? I ended up drawing some of my newer characters, Niessus, Rorik, and Locke.

I had a ton of fun with it and I’m hoping to draw some more characters! Since most of my characters are from fantasy settings, and it was interesting thinking about what modern day clothes they would enjoy wearing.

Wythe and her horse, Marigold

This year I’m thankfully thinking about Artfight ahead of time. I wanted to get one of my newer characters named Wythe up there. I’d already done a lineup for her outfit, but wanted to have a portrait ready and a drawing of her pet horse.

So first I had to figure out how to draw a horse. I started doing some studies, sketching over reference photos of horses.

Since Wythe developed around the time I was reading the Ranger’s Apprentice books, I was really influenced by them for her design, and that goes for her horse’s design too. I decided to go with a smaller breed of horse, the Icelandic horse, which is closer to the size of a pony and has a fluffier winter coat. Mostly I picked the Icelandic breed because I learned they can do a type of gait called a flying pace, which allows them to run very smoothly and quickly over a short period of time. They do this by moving the two legs on the same side of the body together which is really cool. This would be great for a riding archer, so I thought it would be a great fit for Wythe!

I also had a friend recommend looking at Mongolian saddles, since the stirrups are shorter which allows the rider to stand more easily, and is better suited for smaller horse breeds.

I was really lucky and found this video of an icelandic horse running with the skeletal structure painted on.

Finally I moved past horse sketches to figure out Wythe’s horse in particular. After I picked the coat color I thought the name Marigold would be cute and went with that. Might still change it, but I like it for now. I also added Wythe next to Marigold for height comparison.

Marigold is pretty small for a horse, but Wythe is pretty short, so I thought in the end they’d meet about eye-level with each other.

Next I drew a portrait of Wythe! I’m mostly happy with how it turned out but felt rusty while working on it. Maybe drawing horses for so long made me rusty at drawing people haha.

I’ve got her Artfight Profile Page up now if you wanna check it out!

Character Design: Grendle

I had the idea for a new character, a knight / living suit of armor. I’ve started playing the character a bit as a playthrough of Oblivion which has been fun. I wanted to figure out the armor, so first I sketched the armor he would wear in Oblivion and Skyrim, then started working on designs of my own not tied to the games.

Once I figured out the design I liked best, I started working with different color palettes. I enjoyed the gold, red, and black color palettes the most.

I’ll wanna explore the living armor part of the design soon too. I’m thinking of a fungus sort of creature living in the armor that has attached itself between the inner lining of the armor, and the skeleton of the knight that died in the armor. The creature can kinda mush its shape to different parts of the armor and body. So for example if it needs to brace for being hit, it can squish more mass to the legs of the suit. Or squish it more to the arms and back to strike a heavier sword attack.

Character Design: Niessus

I’ve had an idea for a sorcerer for a while now, I worked on some of the character design for him last month, so this month it was time to work on outfit designs!

I’ve not totally happy with it yet, so I’ll probably keep working on outfit designs for a while. I know some sort of brightly colored mages robes, but figuring out the details is tricky.

Art of the Clone

I had fun with the brightly colored and simpler artstyle I tried for a drawing of Rorik last month, and decided to try it out again, this time with my character of the Clone.

I like how it came together, especially the background! I’ve tried keeping a fungal theme going on with the character I really enjoy
