Art from December 2024

[561 words, 3 min estimated read time]

I didn’t make a lot of drawings this month, and not with the usual amount of work I try to put into them, but still wanted to show some of the stuff I made.

Second Siren Design

Similar to last month I made another siren design, this time based on a magpie.

Doodle of my character David

Just made a quick doodle of my character David to figure out a casual outfit with him with the fae wings he recently got in the rp game I play him in.

Figuring out character outfit redesign

I was trying to figure out an outfit design and color palette for my character Killian. I knew with him being a rogue/thief type character I had a general idea for the design to have leather armor pieces. I also knew I wanted to add some asymmetry to the design and parts that show wear and tear in the clothing to steer a way from a neat-and-tidy looking design.

I worked my way to the far right design, changing the shades of hair a bit as well to see how saturated and brown vs orange I wanted the hair. For the asymmetry I made one of the arm braces bigger than the other, the chest piece of armor have straps on one side and a shoulder piece only on one side, and the knife sheath on his left thigh. Through all of them I added the little yellow cloth wrap on his hip for another piece of asymmetry and some more personality to it.

From there I played around with different color combinations.

I asked some friends for feedback and they suggested a cloak or hood, something to conceal their identity as a rogue which I liked. Also to push the contrast a lot more to make it more readable which I definitely agreed with, I have a habit of shying away from strong contrast. I tried another six color combos and starred the ones I felt best about exploring more with.

From there I worked on the designs for two other characters connected to this one, just to quickly get an idea for the differences between them. I later tried out different color combinations and changed the outfits for each a bit

Art vs Artist 2024

I can’t remember if I saw it on Cara or Bluesky first, but people on their were sharing their Art vs Artist 2024 posts and I wanted to join in. I didn’t want to use an actual photo of myself so I just took my sona design for it, but I’m still really happy with how it turned out, and it was nice to look back on some art I’ve made this past year.

Storytelling Journal

I bought a dotted journal to start carrying around with me to jot down any story ideas I think of. Often they’re just quick ideas for characters or concepts and themes that might be interesting to explore, but a few times already when I’ve started writing the idea kept expanding more and more into a full story concept.

It’s been nice pivoting a bit more towards creative writing as another outlet, and I’ve really enjoyed writing in my storytelling journal. So far I’ve written thirteen pages worth since I got it at the beginning of this month.
